Thanks for stopping by. I’m known as Mathaios Brandenburg in Second Life and this is the beginning of my blog about Second Life. I’ll try to give a quick explanation of where I plan to go with this, but check the About page for more details on my vision.
I’m becoming more and more impressed with how “realistic” things are becoming in Second Life. People are creating some amazing things: skins, builds, gadgets. It’s pretty cool to see famous buildings that are well done, or cars that are easily recognizable from the real world. And that’s to say nothing of how much good effort people are putting into making skins and clothing for avatars.
But one thing still bothers me: Why does everything have to be so real? I’m not knocking realism. I think it’s a great thing for a virtual world. But the way I see it, there is already a real world, and anything computer generated is going to fall well short of that with the current level of technology. However, with the technology we have, there is still a lot that can be done.
Second Life is wide open and full of potential. It’s a brand new canvas on which the residents can create any kind of world they like, within reason. So, why are we settling for the real world? Why not experiment and do things in Second Life that simply cannot be done outside of it?
That’s where the idea for this blog comes from. What I hope to do is discuss ideas for how things can be done in SL that simply cannot be done in real life. I want to hear about and discuss impressive builds. I want to find out about projects people are working on that are largely experimental. I want to hear about things educators are doing in virtual classrooms which would be impossible in real classrooms. I want to know about new marketing ideas businesses are trying. I want to know if other people have questioned why there is so much commerce going on in a world where money is completely unnecessary.
So, send me links to cool information. Tell me about residents who are doing truly creative things. Give me slurls to builds that are truly unique. Send me info or pics or whatever on nifty gadgets people are making. Tell me about the new political system you are experimenting with on your sim. Whatever.
Come on, people. Get un-real!
